Chairs are usually the second-biggest furniture line after tables, and the maths is simple because it is one per guest. At our published $12 cross-back, a 120-guest wedding is $1,440 in seating. Our chair collection runs $5 to $60 depending on style, so the same 120 guests can sit anywhere between $600 and $7,200 before delivery.

If your venue already owns chiavaris, the honest advice is to price the upgrade rather than assume it. Swapping 120 included chairs for rented cross-backs is a real line item — it is worth it when the chair is in every photograph of the dinner, and it is not worth it when guests are seated for forty minutes at a corporate lunch.

What planners actually do

On a mixed floor plan, a common and good-looking solution is cross-backs at the long farm tables where the camera lives, and the venue’s own chiavaris at the outer rounds. Nobody notices the difference in the room, and the budget goes where it shows.

The other route is skipping chairs on the long sides altogether and running benches from $69, which seat three to four each. Benches keep sightlines open across the table and cut strike time roughly in half.

Questions to ask before you book either

Ask whether the chairs are the supplier’s own stock or sub-rented, because sub-rental is where finishes quietly change between the proposal and the day.
